We are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with Coach Chris Brown to offer Tennis Lessons this summer! These lessons will follow the ROGY USTA curriculum. What is ROGY anyway? ROGY is an acronym for the progression of tennis balls that junior players use as they grow older, starting with low-compression tennis balls and later, the classic yellow tennis ball that most are familiar with. We have broken down the different levels below for families to chose which session is best for them!

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Chris Thoft-Brown began playing tennis at age 10, and has been playing, teaching and coaching tennis ever since. Chris has extensive experience working with children and adults of all levels, and has coached at Saint Edward’s School, Marblehead Parks and Recreation Department, and NetResults Tennis in Brookline, MA. When not playing or teaching tennis, Chris is a full-time instrumental music teacher for the Public Schools of Brookline.

Dates: Mondays-Thursdays, July 8th - August 8th (Fridays reserved for Rain make ups!)
Eligibility: Ages 6-14
Location: Bourne High School Tennis Courts, 70 Trowbridge Rd.
Cost: $60.00 per week 

Which session is right for your little athlete?

Red Ball: players aged 6-8 who are new to tennis. Participants will use, red foam or felt balls at this stage. These tennis balls bounce lower and move more slowly through the air, giving beginning players a chance to set up and take a good swing at the ball. Courts at this level are 36 feet long and 18 feet wide, with a net that is 2-foot-9.

Orange Ball: for players ages 7-10 with little or no experience. Once comfortable at the Red level, players advance to the Orange level. Orange felt tennis balls bounce higher and move faster than the Red felt or foam balls but lower and slower than the Green ball. They are a step toward the traditional yellow tennis ball while still remaining fun and manageable for players learning the game. Courts at this level are 60 feet by 21 feet for singles and 60 feet by 27 feet for doubles. The net is 3 feet at the center and 3-foot-6 at the net posts.

Green Ball: for players ages 10-13 years old, a progression from Orange Ball. The Green ball is very similar to the traditional yellow tennis ball but with a slightly lower compression so it rebounds lower off the court after a bounce. The Green court is the same dimension as the traditional Yellow court: 78 feet by 27 feet for singles and 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles. The net is 3 feet at the center and 3-foot-6 at the net posts.

Yellow Ball: Yellow ball, or traditional tennis, is perfect for intermediate players ages 11-14 who have established the fundamentals of Green Ball. The balls, courts and racquets at this level are used in the majority of adult matches. The court size is the same as at the green level: 78 feet by 27 feet for singles and 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles, with a net that is 3 feet at the center and 3-foot-6 at the net posts.
